WHEN A WOUND HEALS, WE FORGET THE THORNS
Life has a way of testing us with pain, struggle, and setback. In the moment, the sting or disappointment or sharpness of betrayal can feel unbearable. This is like walking barefoot across thorns. Yet, overtime our wounds close, and the scars remain but the sting fades. And once we heal, we often forget the pain that once consumed us.
In addition, this is both a blessing and challenge. If every wound stayed fresh in our memory, we would never dare to love, trust, or try again. Forgetting the thorns allow us to move forward. It's what makes us resilient. A child falls countless times before learning to walk, but each healed scrape makes the next attempt possible. Adults too, need the selective forgetfulness to keep living boldly.
On the other side, when we forget too quickly, we also risk losing the wisdom that came with the wound. Pain teaches us boundaries, patience, compassion, and humility. If we erase the memory of the thorns, we may find ourselves walking barefoot in the same path again, unprepared for what waits beneath the grass.
As my final words, the art of healing is to release the suffering while keeping the lesson. We don't have to carry the sting of the thorns forever, but we can carry its wisdom. Time will sort out everything but not the lesson caught from journey we took, and full of thorns. Because life will always be thorns, but each scar you carry is a proof that you are not just surviving, you are growing.
Solo.
